Borrowed

Who do puddles belong to?

Hello Grubsters,

The sky was sitting in a puddle this morning.

It looked perfectly happy there.

Which made me wonder...

Who do puddles belong to?

Puddles are irresistible.

My feet long for them!

But not because I want to splash through as quickly as possible ...

... it’s because I want to borrow their little moment in time.

A puddle holds me differently from the firm earth.

Differently from the spongy grass.

Differently from the crunchy leaves.

Perhaps that's why I love them so much.

They remind me that the water in the clouds,

the water in the puddle

and the water inside me

are all part of the same great adventure.

Funny where wondering can take you.

The sky doesn't seem to mind sharing.

Neither do the clouds.

A gumboot borrows a puddle for one glorious splash.

A duck borrows it for a paddle.

A thirsty magpie might borrow a little drink.

The wind borrows it for a tiny ripple.

Then, just when everyone has finished borrowing it ...

... the sunshine gently lifts it back into the sky!

But it’s not forever.

Just until it's time to visit us again.

Perhaps that's the lovely thing about puddles.

They never really disappear.

They simply keep travelling.

Borrowing the sky.

Becoming clouds.

Falling as rain.

Waiting for another pair of curious feet.

Or another duck.

Or another wonderfully quiet morning.

One more wonder …

When the rain comes back ...

... do you think it remembers where it has been?

Keep noticing!

Love,

dirtgirl 💚
