family
hello!
Hi greenthumbs! It’s dirtgirl here! This time, it’s all about Get Grubby family fun.
We’re going to sing ‘good morning’, make a family bucket list, write a beautiful family ‘manifesto’ and create a family nature table.
And we’re going to explore some amazing family projects like making a Little Library or a Flower Stall!
As always, it’s choose your own adventure, so you can pick and choose what you’d like to do!
sing
To start this week’s Get Grubby family adventure, we’re going to get up and sing ‘good morning’ together!
You can find the song words below.
family
It’s a big, beautiful world outside. Spending time outside is what Get Grubby families like to do together. And Get Grubby families love to care for our planet!
What other things do Get Grubby families like to do? Here are some ideas:
Cook, compost, dance, draw, dig in the dirt, explore, harvest, jump in puddles, learn, listen, love, make music, picnic, plant seeds, recycle, share, stargaze, tell stories, upcycle, walk in nature, watch butterflies.
What does your family like to do together? What things are important to your family?
make
Some families have a ‘family mission’ or ‘family rules’ or a ‘family manifesto’. Would you like to create your own?
Sit down together and talk about what is important in your family.
Then write these ideas down on a poster.
Stick it up somewhere special where everyone can see!
Here are some of my favourite ideas.
Here is a family manifesto that I love. It’s written by Brene Brown.
It’s grubby bucket time!
You could make a family grubby bucket!
Write down your family bucket list (which just means a list of things you’d love to do together). Then put all the pieces of paper into your bucket.
When you’re ready for an adventure, pick a piece of paper out of your bucket and read it out loud!
scrapbook fun
A nature walkabout is one of my favourite family activities. You could print out the activity sheet below and draw a picture of your family.
make a family nature table
Your could put all your favourite leaves, stones, feathers and flowers on a family nature table!
family switch…
When the weather is cold, you can choose to rug up with warm clothes and switch the temperature of your heating down by a degree or two.
This is an easy way to save energy (and help our planet!).
When the weather is hot, you can switch the temperature of your cooling up by a degree or two.
Make the family switch!
family gardening activity
A fun activity to do in the garden right now is mulching! Putting mulch on your garden in winter helps to protect your plants from the cold weather and winds. It’s like rugging up your garden in warm clothes!
And in the warmer months, mulch stops the soil from drying out and helps to keep weeds away.
family projects
Have you ever seen a Little Book Library, a Food Share Stall or a Sweet Little Flower Stall?
Here are some amazing ideas that you could do as a family project to help make your neighborhood a special place to be.
