Join Our Kids Who Grow Food Project

Welcome to Kids Who Grow Food

Are you a kid who loves growing food?

Is your family into growing food?

Do you grow food at school?

Are you the gardener of your family?

Then I need you to share with all of us, what you love about growing food.

Get ready for a homegrown revolution!

We want to see your garden!

Do you have some top tips to share? Or a bumper crop to show off? You may have grown the biggest zucchini in the world  …or the tinniest tomato.

I want to see that!

So how do you get involved?

Step 1 - Send Photos of Your Garden

Send me 4-12 photos of your garden, your food, your family in the garden, your class in the garden or your friends and you in the garden!

Make sure one picture shows the big story of the garden so we get a great idea of what your garden looks like. It might be a backyard garden or a verge garden or a patio garden or a garden made out of pot plants or maybe you grow your food on a farm.

It would also be great to see some close-ups of your garden growing and some pictures of your food when you pick it, even when you cook it or eat it!

You don’t have to show your face, you can show your hands, the back of you in the garden, your body without your head in the frame…or pop a sticker over your face. Different families have different rules about this stuff…everyone is welcome.

If you can name your photos so we know what they are that would be extra cool- or write a list in the submission form below letting me know what the photos are …

For example:

Photo 1 - my whole garden

Photo 2 - baby spinach growing

Photo 2 - this herb is called….

Photo 3 - this is my whole class in the garden

Then pop them in a dropbox or google drive to send to us. Here are some helpful links to learn to do this.

Step 2 - Share the story of Your Garden

Share the story of your garden with me. Write a story your about your garden. Use less than 300 words in total. Let everyone know where you grow, what you like to grow, what stuff you know about growing, if you eat what you grow, how it makes you feel, your favourite thing to grow…you know stuff like that. You may need a big person to help with this. This is a list of questions that will be in the KIDS WHO GROW FOOD submission form:

  1. Your name and age - if you are not comfortable using your child’s name, create a nickname.

  2. What part of the world you live in - just the area, town, suburb is enough, we don’t need your whole address.

  3. How you got into growing food (did someone teach you, did you learn at school?)

  4. What do you love growing the most? (tomatoes, potatoes, herbs?)

  5. What is the most exciting part of growing food (Which bits do you love? How does it make you feel?)

  6. Your favourite tip for growing food (this is to help other people who are starting out)

  7. Anything else you would like to share to inspire others kids to get growing?

Step 3

Fill out the KIDS WHO GROW FOOD submission form below…

so that we can upload your photos and story to the facebook page.

Then standby and get ready to see your story on the Facebook page, connect with other kids who are growing food and inspire the world to get growing.

And that’s basically it

We’ll share a few gardens every week. Costa the garden gnome and I will also be dropping in with some fun challenges and call outs from time to time too.

This is going to be great!

If you have any questions - post them below in the comments section or email them with your submission.

See you in the garden!
