It's Our 10th Birthday and World Soil Day!

It’s our 10th Birthday

On Thursday Dec 5

dirtgirlworld is turning 10.

10 years of being on TV

10 years of families going outside
and getting grubby with us.

It’s quite the milestone

It’s also World Soil Day

… the perfect day for a dirtgirlworld party!

My best friend scrapboy and our special guests,
the kids from Rappville Public School
will be there too.

We would love to invite you to join the party

in dirtgirlworld…virtually

Simply send us a happy birthday video and we will send you a special video message from the party on the day. One lucky video will also win a live party hook up call on the day.

Get in fast for this one …the party is this Thursday, Dec 5 at 9.30am

Post your birthday messages in the comment bar at Facebook or upload youtube, vimeo and send the url to dirtgirl@dirtgirlworld.com

Please don’t send videos directly via email as our communications are still struggling after the fires and big video files (any file over 3MB) will crash our email system

It’s our birthday but you will get the presents

That’s right…some incredible sustainable creators, makers and businesses have donated a swag of presents for dirtgirl and scrapboy to give away on our birthday and all through December! It’s called dirtgirl’s big birthday un-boxing bash! And it’s easy to join in the fun.

Sign up to the Gift Registry

Add your name to our gift registry and be in the running to get one of our birthday gifts. During December we will be giving away random gifts to random people on the list. We will be posting on facebook and notifying winners for email.

It’s just the start of the birthday fun

The party is the start of our 10th birthday. We love a party so much we are going to make it last a year! 12 months of birthday love and fun is coming your way. So watch this space!

10 years of memories! Here are just some of them!

World Soil day

As well as being our birthday , Thursday Dec 5 is also world soil day.

World Soil Day 2019 is an annual awareness day run by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). It’s all about raiseingawareness of the importance of soil quality for human well-being, food security and our ecosystem. Soil is really important

Watch my dirt day spoken word!

Soil is the top layer of the earth, the layer which everyone is familiar with, but not everyone knows much about, many householders don’t even know if their garden is clay, loam or sandy soil or a mixture, but the knowledge of soil type, structure, management and condition is what can make the difference between good plant growth and a thriving ecosystem and a wasteland.

Soil is made up of organic and inorganic matter, air and water, and the mixture depends on the way the soil is managed or neglected, which in turn impacts on how plants grow. All living creatures needs soil for food and soil also holds onto carbon…amazing! , This carbon is lost through erosion, which increases climate change…yikes!  We better look after our soil!

We all depend on soil, so the more that that is understood of it, the better the planet thrives, from beautiful gardens to crops that produce our food .

One great way we can help protect our soils is  by turning our food scraps into compost. That’s how we can make new soil , to grow new food for all of us…awersome!

Are you making compost at your place? Does your council collect your food scraps in your organics kerbside collection. Let’s make 2020 the year we get our compost rocking!

If you’re a compost rockstar share a picture or tip about compost on Facebook , Instagram or in the comments below!
