How to make a natural wreath

Sustainable Christmas crafts for kids

A beautiful way to celebrate the festive season is to make your own Nature Wreath.

Wreaths are simple and fun to make.

You can make a nature wreath from things collected in nature, like branches, leaves, twigs, herbs, flowers and feathers.

how to make your own natural Christmas wreath

  1. Pick a shape

Wreaths are traditionally round, but you can make a wreath in any shape you like! You could try a triangle or a square or an oval.

    2. Make a frame

You’ll need something strong to make a frame for your wreath. You could try using branches or bendy twigs. Make sure you tie them together tightly with a piece of string to make your frame.

There are other things you can use, too. Think about what you have in your house that you could upcycle…what about an old wire coat hanger? Or a piece of cardboard cut into a circle? Or even an old bike wheel?! scrapboy would like that!

3. Let’s decorate

Now for the fun part. Decorate your wreath! You might need to go outside into your backyard or go for a family nature walk to collect your nature items. Take a basket and collect things like leaves, herbs (rosemary is my favourite!), big seedpods, flowers that will dry nicely and colourful feathers. You could even dry orange slices or make apple stars and pop them on your wreath! Tie all your nature decorations on with some string.

4. Hang it up

When you’re finished, you can hang your wreath up on your front door or a special place!
